Joshua Mothner moved to Marathon, Florida in 1996 with his wife, Janine Mothner, and his two daughters, Mackenzie Keller and Samantha Mothner.
During the 29 years here, family always came first, followed closely by a strong commitment to community. In 1998 Josh served as the Treasurer for Heron House Assisted Living Facility. In 2002 he and others, formed the Middle Keys Community Land Trust, serving as Treasurer and President. As time went on Josh served two terms as President of the Marathon Chamber of Commerce, three different iterations of Affordable Housing Task forces, for the City of Marathon and Monroe County, coaching basketball at Marathon High School, and currently a consulting engagement as Affordable Housing Coordinator for the City of Marathon through his consulting company, Haven Business Solutions. Josh’s affordable housing work also included purchasing land, entitling that land, and facilitating sale to Habitat for Humanity, resulting in Habitat being able to put 15 families in homes here in Marathon.
During his time here in the Keys his career included Bar Manager, Real Estate Agent (round one,) commercial and residential loan officer with Marine Bank (now Centennial), Haven Funding, a mortgage brokerage business he started, General Manager of Sombrero County Club, host of three AM radio shows, and back to Real Estate (round two) which he continues today. Joshua Mothner’s MCT related activity includes performing in the Covid shortened production of How to Succeed in Business, but he has long time connections to MCT. His mother, Patricia McNally, performed in Camelot, The Music Man, several other MCT productions, and the MCT chorus for many years. His daughter Samantha Mothner played Amaryllis in MCT’s the Music Man alongside her Grandmother. Josh has written, directed, and produced two short films for the Tropic Cinema’s 72 Hour Film Challenge, and he played the titular role in the Devil and Daniel Webster before moving to the Keys in 1996.
