MARATHON COMMUNITY THEATRE OPENS FINAL PRODUCTION OF THE SEASON

Marathon, FL (April 24, 2008) — Cactus Flower, a 1960’s comedy written by Abe Burrows, opens Thursday, May 8 at Marathon Community Theatre. The play is directed by Alicia Merel, assistant director, Suzanne Terpos and producer, Tom O’Neil. Cactus Flower played on Broadway during the 1960s and starred Lauren Bacall and Barry Nelson, Brenda Vaccaro and Burt Brinckerhoff in the original cast. It was later adapted to film in 1969 and featured Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn.

The story focuses on a crazy relationship between a young, wild girl named Toni and her older, “married” lover, Julian, a Manhattan dentist. Dr. Julian Winston concocts one elaborate lie after another in order to avoid making a “commitment” to Toni. It’s entertaining, it’s funny, it’s chock full of your neighbors and friends who make up the cast.

Tickets are on sale now for $18. Call the MCT box office at 305-743-0994 or stop by 5101 Overseas Highway, Marathon, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays on show dates. An opening night party will immediately follow the May 8 performance for first-night ticket holders. Mingle with the cast and enjoy free snacks and a cash bar.
